Maybe This Is the Turning Point

Among the predictably polarized responses to the congressional shooting this week -- some on the left renewing calls for stronger gun control laws, some on the right claiming liberals are more prone to violence than conservatives -- it was heartening to hear words of unity from the bipartisan congressional leadership and, yes, the president. I hope they follow through on toning down the partisan rhetoric and looking for common ground, and find meaningful legislative compromises that will help people, especially the people who are hurting the most. Because maybe if they lead, the rest of us will follow.
